Biofilm and Illness and Disease

What is a Biofilm?
Why does it matter?

Pathogens on a surface, secrete a sticky substance made up of proteins, saccharides, and lipids, known as Extracellular Polymeric Substances (EPS). This creates a biofilm and becomes an environment wherein bacteria, viruses, fungus, and other microbes can multiply and thrive, and this happens very quickly. If not removed, the biofilm will open and release some of the bacteria to move on, multiply and create further biofilms, creating an environment prone to illness & disease.

Can any cleaner just remove Biofilm?

For a number of reasons, NO!   The biofilm itself helps to protect bacteria from chemical cleaners like bleach, oxidizers, quaternary ammonia and disinfectants.  Most boast 99.9% of germs are killed but it is the ones that are left behind that we are most concerned about.  If left they will continue to multiply and create more biofilm, flourishing again in just 24 hours. Once the microbes re-enter a biofilm, they are 1,000 times harder to kill than when outside of a biofilm, and chemical cleaners simply cannot completely remove biofilms.  You will either require to use some good old-fashioned elbow grease or the correct product.

If you are only using antibacterial products & disinfectants the microbiome is disrupted and places us and the environment at risk of harmful germs and viruses. This is because antibacterial sanitizers and disinfectants kill both the good and bad bacteria – the Probiotic which is the good bacteria become outnumbered. microPro's product technology is unique in that we propose disinfection and co-infection for enhanced Public Health and Safety. Our probiotic cleaning products contain good bacteria to replace “bad bugs” such as Salmonella, E.coli, Staphylococcus, Clostridium, and numerous others.
